The 2024 Isle of Wight Hedgelaying Competition, which was due to take place on Saturday 24th February 2024, has been cancelled. The competition, held annually at locations around the Island, has been a regular fixture in the Island’s agricultural events calendar for many years. But co-organiser Matthew Chatfield, of the Isle of Wight Hedgerow Group, has confirmed that the event will not be going ahead this year. Matthew has said:
“We are very sorry to announce that we will not be holding the competition in 2024. “I appreciate this will be a disappointment to many, and we would like to thank all the competitors and others for their patience this year.
The event was also cancelled in 2019, 2021 (due to COVID) and in 2022. It means since 2018, out of a possible 7 events only 3 have taken place. However, there is good news as a site has already been secured for 2025. The 29th edition of the competition will be held on Saturday 22nd February 2025 at Parkdown Barns, Calbourne Road, Newport – by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Mike Morris. Matthew adds:
“This is the site we visited in 2015 and 2016 which proved to be a very popular location with well-attended events. “We look forward to welcoming you to the competition next year.”
