UPDATED: The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team and Calshot RNLI are on scene at Trinity Landing in Cowes tonight (Friday) where a vessel is sinking rapidly.
Just 20 minutes after the end of the annual fireworks display, Solent Coastguard were alerted to the incident just off The Parade where thousands of people have gathered for the Cowes Week celebrations.
Efforts to pump water out of the small boat – thought to be used for sailing in the area – have failed and the vessel is sinking stern first. Emergency teams look on with little they can do.
No one is thought to have been injured.
UPDATE @ 23:30 – The casualty vessel is thought to be ‘Twin Wakes’ – the same boat in which 7 people were rescued from when it began to sink on the Solent earlier this month.
UPDATE SATURDAY @ 09:00 – Anti-pollution floats have been put in place around the vessel, which is now completely submerged.
A salvage plan is being established with the harbour master.
It has been confirmed that no one was on board the boat at the time of the incident.
