A Certificate of Appreciation has been awarded to the voluntary litter-picking group Vectis Wombles by Newport & Carisbrooke Community Council.
Vectis Wombles have recently been carrying out litter picks in Newport litter hot spots including Island Harbour and Downside and recently won silver in the ‘Community Project of the Year’ category of the Isle of Wight Community Awards 2023 for their work across the Island.
At NCCC’s monthly Full Council meeting, held at their new office on Newport High Street, the group was also gifted with black and clear bin bags to be distributed amongst members as part of the Newport Litter Project where the group has been working in partnership with NCCC.
Chair Councillor Andrew Garratt said:
“We are extremely grateful to Vectis Wombles for their continuing efforts around the Island, especially in Newport.”

Well-deserved, Wonderful Womblers!
What are we paying our massively expensive council tax for??? Surely someone is employed to do this job?
