57-year-old Yoawapha Berry has been handed a 44-month driving ban after crashing her car into a ditch whilst 3x the drink-drive limit – her 2nd conviction for drink driving in the past 7 years.
Berry, of Trattles Court in Newport, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Tuesday) where she pleaded guilty to a single charge of drink driving.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that it was on 7th August that Police were called to Stroudwood Road on the outskirts of Ryde following a single vehicle collision. Officers arrived to find Berry waiting at the scene alongside a witness who had to remove the keys from the crashed vehicle – a silver Ford Fiesta.
A roadside breath test provided a result of 106, with a reading of 105 recorded on the evidential breathalyser at Newport Police Station following Berry’s arrest.
Island Echo reported on the crash at the time. The car, which left the road at around 20:20, was left in-situ with Police tape wrapped around it.
The court heard that Yoawapha Berry, a part-time chef for her son’s takeaway business, was previously convicted of drink driving in September 2015.
Defending, Berry’s solicitor said that she had been out drinking in the morning and intended to get a taxi home, but instead decided to drive her own car. He said that she had been in a toxic relationship and in the month before the crash had reported an assault by her then-partner.
Magistrates handed Yoawapha a 44-month driving ban and made her subject to a 12-month community order with a 9-month alcohol treatment programme requirement and 15 rehabilitation days attached. She was ordered to pay £85 costs with a £114 surcharge.

This is why drunks and druggies should have their licence take away for good and their cars scrapped
As this is her second conviction for drink driving people like her should lose their licence for life, everyone can make one mistake but to repeat it shows she is not fit to be on the road at all and will probably do it again, luckily she didn’t hurt or kill someone
Why do women always blame their ex-partners or some other stupid excuse ?
Always the victim, never their fault !
No hint of sexism there then.
She as to as she as no kne eles to blame I know her
Translation in English please
Sounds like you’ve had a few too many. please don’t drive!
English please, then we can tell if your making a valid point.
Not a hint of sexism there then.
It’s for the benefit of bleeding heart magistrates.
They full for it every time.

wow..she started drinking in the morning FFS and was on the sauce all day long and then tried to blag her way out of it by blaming her ex partner – what a disgusting alkie low life
should have a photo of her alongside the article so that she can be shamed further
Totally agree, along with a photo of the low life magistrate who was too stupid to imprison her. Is it the same magistrate that continually leaves these repeat offenders out in society to continue to endanger all our lives?
Should never be allowed to drive again, there is no excuse for what she done,in my opinion she should be banged up
All boy racers need to be banned from our roads!
Sexist!
Excuses excuses excuses sick of hearing them! Take her licence away altogether, she could actually hurt or kill somebody, she doesn’t deserve to be allowed to drive!!!
But the trouble is, these types are just so selfish and really don’t care, they drive anyway. They don’t care if they have no licence, tax, insurance or MOT. They just go about their business and to hell with being legal on the public roads because they know not much will be done to them when they go before a judge.
Our judiciary systems needs a major overhaul to stop these types from laughing in the face of these pathetic judges. Lock them up for a year.
And again and again and again! There is no excuse for drink or drug driving, ever. These people are totally selfish but most of all, stupid. And you know you can’t educate stupid.
Risking other people’s lives. What gives them the right to do that, nothing!
