80-year-old Linda Smith, arrested for seriously assaulting an elderly male at a residential address in Newport during the early hours of yesterday morning (Wednesday), has been charged with his attempted murder.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Manor Crescent at around 02:30 yesterday following reports that a male in his 80s had been attacked.
Officers responding to the call arrested an 80-year-old woman at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Detectives from Newport CID spent the day conducting enquiries into the incident, which has led to Linda Smith being charged with a more serious offence of attempted murder.
She has been remanded in custody to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Thursday).
