A yellow weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight, with severe gales of up to 70mph potentially hitting the Island during Friday morning.
IW Met Service has issued the warning for Friday (23rd October), with strong southwesterly winds expected to develop overnight on Thursday and into the early hours of Friday.
Gusts of 60-70mph are possible, with winds forecast to turn more towards the west or west-northwest as Friday morning progresses.
Forecasters say there is a chance that the strongest winds could coincide with the morning rush hour, potentially causing disruption to commuters and those travelling across the Solent.
The warning is in force from 01:00 until 16:00 on Friday and has been classified as yellow, reflecting the possibility of major impacts.
However, IW Met Service has stressed that considerable uncertainty remains over the exact track of the storm. Even a slight shift further north could keep the strongest winds away from the Isle of Wight, potentially meaning the warning is no longer required.
If the strongest winds do materialise, large waves and sea spray could affect exposed coastal routes, while Cross-Solent ferry services may face disruption.
High-sided vehicles could also be affected on exposed roads, with fallen trees and large branches potentially blocking roads and footpaths.
Residents are being advised to secure loose outdoor items, allow extra time for journeys and take particular care near exposed coastlines.
