An 80-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an elderly male was attacked at a property in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
Police were called at 02:31 following reports of an assault at an address on Manor Crescent, Pan Estate.
A man in his 80s sustained injuries in the incident, but these are said to not be life-threatening.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that an 80-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
She remains in custody at this time.
Detectives are leading the investigation into this serious assault and have been conducting door-to-door enquiries throughout the day.
Forensic investigators have been present at the scene conducting an examination to help piece together the events of the early hours.
UPDATE THURSDAY – 80-year-old Linda Smith has been charged with attempted murder and remanded in custody.
