NEWPORT BUSINESS FALLS VICTIM TO DAYLIGHT BURGLARY

A family-run business in Newport has been left shocked and saddened following a daytime burglary in which cash was stolen.

Staff at Novo on Upper St James’ Street arrived this afternoon (Monday) to find the restaurant’s till missing and the back door forced open. It appears a crowbar was used to gain access to the premises from an alleyway to the rear.

It’s thought the burglary took place sometime between 09:00 and 15:00 when the area was busy with shoppers.

Thankfully, there was only around £50 in the till so the financial loss to the popular eatery isn’t great. But the incident has left staff feeling uneasy and concerned, especially with the apparent brazen attitude of the burglar targeting the business during day light hours.

Hampshire Constabulary have been informed of the incident.

Novo remains open for business as normal.

Anyone with any information relating to this burglary should contact Police on 101, quoting 441802785003.
