Residents at Vecta House Care Home in Newport recently enjoyed an extra special animal therapy session with Bella – 1 of the donkeys from the Isle Of Wight Donkey Sanctuary.
Bella trotted around the home to visit each and every resident, Bella is 19 and was very calm on her visit letting residents stroke her soft coat, Bella’s visit also brought back some fond memories for residents who used to own or used to take part in horse riding.
May resident of Vecta House said:
“Oh isn’t she beautiful, she reminds me of when my father brought me my first horse when I was 3”
Tanya Everson the Activities Coordinator at Vecta House said:
“It’s so heart-warming to see the reactions of our residents when they first met Bella it was lovely to see their smiles and curiosity asking questions about Bella and the other donkeys at the sanctuary. Animal therapy has proven to be so beneficial to residents living with dementia, sparking memories of the past”
