Lake Parish Council has opened their new public conveniences at Lake Cliff Gardens following extensive building work and installation of new individual units.
The public conveniences were closed in the early 2010s by the Isle of Wight Council and have been maintained and serviced by Lake Parish Council subsequently, along with the New Road and Revetment toilets.
The new facilities at Lake Cliff Gardens have a payment system of 20p, either by cash or card, as well as accessible and family-friendly features.
Lake Parish Council has recently invested funds in youth provision, maintenance of the revetment toilets, Fairway Park, a range of commemorative events, and, following extensive public consultation, is planning the upgrade of New Road toilets.
Parish Chairman Cllr Paul Brading said:
“The Parish Council recognised the need to upgrade our amenities for the benefit of residents and visitors, and following consultation, this major investment is the first phase of a longer-term plan to improve facilities in the Parish.
“This major investment of £150,000 reflects the ambition of the Parish to respond to feedback from local parishioners, as well as part of our contribution to the development of a Bay Place Plan, alongside Sandown and Shanklin Town Councils.
‘The Parish Council recognise that new and improved facilities come at a cost, and whilst keeping the precept below that of comparable councils, the cost pressures will likely result in an increase for the first time in many years.”

Three public conveniences in one village….?
Impressive.
Why is the disabled cash only with no card option?
Buggers me.
disabled shouldn’t get their own special toilet – it is discriminatory against able bodied
all toilets should be one cubicle each, with a sink, toilet, baby changer and enough space for a wheelchair in each one- it would then be simply be an accessible facility for anyone who wishes to use it
In my day we were told to count our fortunes that we are able bodied can and were told to give extra respect to those who have to struggle when using the bathroom. You’re comment is poisonous and reductive.
I thought disabled toilets were key operated ?
And a key should be made available to those that need them ?
Maybe ithe system has changed.
Still good to have more toilets though .
Won’t people try to save money by just popping round the back and peeing against the building?
I think that that is terrible…..lol.
Or sh*t in a Bush.
So many unnessecary Cllrs
have they got nothing better to do.
