National supermarket chain, ALDI, is said to be looking for new locations for stores on the Isle of Wight.
The UK’s fifth biggest supermarket has opened around 4 new stores per month on average around the UK to meet the increasing demand by consumers for its low prices.
On the Island, the chain currently has stores in both Cowes and Lake, but is said to be on the lookout for sites that could accommodate a new store in areas including Ryde and Shanklin to complement its 900 other stores across the country.
A store is already said to be planned for the new St George’s Way retail park in Newport, as previously reported.
It’s expected that any further opening of stores on the Island would mean the creation of at least 30 new jobs for residents.

What about Ventnor, all we have there is a Tesco, and a Co-Op, both with rip off prices to boot, Aldi would do well there. After all there is the old bus station there ,and that is an eyesore, or the old brewery. Or offer Co-Op the cash and they might leave.
With the number of houses being thrown up, may I suggest West Wight
What about West Wight ?
Welcome to the Isle of Supermarkets.
It would be nice if Aldi opened a store in West Wight
Is that 30 part time jobs?
Great just what we need more Aldi shops on the island.
Why are there no quality shops opening on the island. These stores are almost as bad as Poundland.
Agree with you Ron
Living in the most populated place on the Island (the infamous Gateway), it would make quite a nice change to actually Aldi shop where I live. Note to other supermarkets and takeaways.
What about bembridge? They deserve a bargain.
Definitely West Wight , get rid of rip off and poor quality Co-op with its prices 3/4 times more than others, yes have there deals to get you in door then rip you off on everyday item’s. The poorest could feed to their kids without worry and food banks and have much better quality of life. I might even then pop to Freshwater for other shops, make a day out.
Why is everyone so mad for Aldi? They don’t deliver, their fruit and veg isn’t great and despite all the union jack’s they’re foreign!
Very good quality meat products and frozen food and 1/2 the price of Tesco, but there staff are pretty rude if you can find any… horses for courses x
No more supermarkets please.
It would be nice to see something in the old ATS tyre place in Newport rather than it all closed up looking sad.
Aldi is not cheap, I can shop cheaper at Morrisons. I bought chicken from Aldi and before its use by date it had turned green, I didn’t return it because the petrol would have been more expensive than the meat. I do agree though the Co-op is so much more expensive than any of the other shops even Waitrose on some items.
