Organisers of the West Wight Solent Swim have confirmed a new date for the charity challenge after strong winds forced the cancellation of the original event earlier this month.
The swim will now take place on Monday 4th August, with 53 of the original 65 swimmers able to take on the cross-Solent challenge.
Participants will be ferried across to Hurst Castle aboard the Yarmouth Rose, operated by Needles Pleasure Cruises, where they will begin their swim just before 06:30. They will be supported by a beach crew, 33 kayakers, 6 escort boats and the Freshwater Independent Lifeboat.
The first swimmers are expected to arrive at Colwell around 07:00.
The event raises vital funds for the West Wight Sports & Community Centre, which provides essential health and well-being services for the area’s growing number of older and more isolated residents.
Centre Manager, Clare Griffin, has said:
“We are relieved and excited to be able to have another go at the swim. It was absolutely heart-breaking to have had to cancel – the hard work in training for the swim has been evident from the numbers of people using the pool and also training in the sea.
“It is inspiring to see so many people take on the challenge. Not only do they raise essential funds for our Centre, but they also achieve the incredible accolade of becoming a Cross Solent Swimmer.”

Looking forward to watching the solent swim.
