Cowes residents will be able to sing themselves into happiness when local arts for wellbeing charity, Independent Arts, opens its latest SingAbout group.
The Cowes group – which will take place on Tuesdays 10:30-12:30 at the Isle of Wight Community Club – starts on Tuesday 17th May and will join the 6 others run by Independent Arts, improving self-confidence, reducing loneliness and giving participants a greater sense of wellbeing.
The Cowes group will be run by experienced singing practitioner Annie O’Bree, who also leads the successful Ryde sessions on Monday afternoons. She is excited about the new group:
“We’ll be singing all the songs you know. Come along, make new friends and have fun. Whether you think you can sing or not, SingAbout is sure to improve your mood. Happy Tuesdays!”
Peta Rainford, programme manager at Independent Arts, says there is increasing scientific evidence for the benefits of singing:
“Singing gives you a natural high; some studies even suggest that it can help with pain relief and boost your immune system! Certainly participants at our other groups report that they feel happier after taking part in a SingAbout session.”
SingAbout sessions are free and take place at different venues – Cowes, Bembridge, East Cowes, Freshwater, Lake, Newport, Ryde – throughout the week.
