A new museum dedicated to Isle of Wight’s music history has opened in Newport, showcasing thousands of exhibits from local festivals, iconic artists and rising stars like Wet Leg and Coach Party.
The Wight Music Experience is located above Triple A Records on St James’ Street and is free to enter. It was officially opened by Ray Foulk, co-promoter of the 1968-70 Isle of Wight Festivals, with archive footage shown at a launch event.
The museum features items such as vintage posters, records, t-shirts, a 1970 Festival sleeping bag and Victorian sheet music. It also celebrates events like Bestival, Rhythmtree and Postfest.
MP Richard Quigley and local musicians attended the opening, which included performances by Jess Leigh Ong and Alex Watson.
Co-founder Jonathan Bacon said the project aims to preserve and inspire through local music heritage, with plans to expand into Ryde soon.
The museum is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 17:00, with regular live events and talks.
