The former Co-Op store in Newport will become the town’s new Mountain Warehouse, it has been revealed.
Posters have been erected in the window of the empty building, which sits between South Street and Pyle Street, confirming the move.
It comes just days after the existing Mountain Warehouse store on the High Street closed. The doors were shut for the last time on Friday.
For as long as anyone can remember the building under the multi-storey car park on Pyle Street has been occupied by a supermarket. International was followed by Somerfield, with TK Maxx and the Co-O then occupying the space after it was split. The Co-Op closed in February 2021.
The new Mountain Warehouse store is expected to open next month. In the meantime, Ryde’s store is open as normal.
Last week Island Echo revealed that Tesco Express is to open in the former Laura Ashley store on the High Street in Newport.
