A full entry of 100 cars have entered to compete in next weekend’s inaugural Island Car Centre Sandown Sprint – and we’ve got 4 weekend tickets to giveaway!
For the first time over 60 years, motorsport will return to the streets of the Isle of Wight on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April 2022 with a specially constructed 750m sprint track at Culver Parade in Sandown.
Competitors will be taking part in timed runs between The Bandstand and Yaverland Car Park, weaving through chicanes at full speed whilst avoiding receiving time penalties for colliding with course markers.
Spectators can expect to see a whole array of cars and their drivers taking to the track in a bid to secure the best time – from World Rally Cars to Radical racers and quite literally everything in between. One of the standout competitors of the event is 2-time World Rally Champion Miki Biasion, who will be competing in a Group A Lancia Delta Integrale.
Will Nicholls is the owner of the event’s sponsor, Island Car Centre, and is no stranger to motor racing. He has been a consistently successful rally driver for many years and will be driving his M-Sport prepared Ford Fiesta. Will commented:
“This is an exciting new initiative for the Isle of Wight. The Sandown Sprint will be the first time in many years that motorsport will be back on our roads. As the Island’s largest dealer of quality used cars we’re delighted to be supporting the event.”
Originally scheduled to run in March 2020, the Sandown Sprint was an early casualty of the national lockdown, which also prevented the event from taking place in 2021. But the roar of engines will bring the seafront alive next weekend for what is hoped to be an exciting start of a new era of motorsport on the Island.
