possiblefatalmotorcyclistcollisionbrading5UPDATED: An Island man in his 40s has died in hospital after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a road traffic collision with a car on Coach Lane, Brading last night (Wednesday).

As previously reported by Island Echo, the victim collided with a small hatchback car at the junction with Park Road at shortly before 20:30. He was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital and later airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the man tragically died as a result of his injuries overnight. His family had rushed to be by his bedside.

Coach Lane reopened at around 04:00 this morning after being closed for more than 8 hours to allow an investigation to be carried out by the Collision Investigation Unit.

UPDATE @ 12:40 – The victim of last night’s collision has been named locally as Lee Daniel, a much-loved and well-known Islander.

Tributes have poured in across social media following the sad news of Lee’s passing. He died at around 04:00 this morning with his family around him.

Police have confirmed that the Lee’s Suzuki motorcycle collided with a Nissan Almera before then also colliding with a Kia Picante. No one else was hurt and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of what happened.
