Yarmouth RNLI was tasked to a motor cruiser that had encountered an engine failure in the West Wight this afternoon (Sunday).
Yarmouth’s Severn class All Weather Lifeboat, Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer), was tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard at 15:07 to a 38ft motor yacht with a loss of steering and engine failure.
The lifeboat crew headed west out of the Solent and quickly located the motor cruiser, which had 3 persons and a dog on board. They were located approximately 6 miles south of Hengistbury Head.
Once on scene, Yarmouth RNLI was challenged by rough conditions and westerly winds gusting at over 30 knots. Having assessed the situation, it was decided to deploy 2 drogue anchors and a tow line was established ready for the journey back to Yarmouth Harbour.
When arriving back at Yarmouth, the RNLI established an alongside tow in order to safely take the motor yacht into the harbour.
Everyone on board – including the dog – were wearing a lifejacket. All were safe and unharmed.
Yarmouth Lifeboat returned to her berth and was ready for service at 19:35.
