Wightlink Ferries will be running extra catamaran sailings between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour on Sunday (26th July), the final day of the America’s Cup World Series (ACWS).
There will be services hourly ex-Ryde from 09:10 to 19:10 and ex-Portsmouth from 09:40 to 19:40 in addition to the timetabled services.
Chief Operating Officer, John Burrows said:
“We are expecting hundreds of people to want to cross the Solent to view the racing for themselves on Sunday.
“Many of our ships will not be far away from the competing boats during the afternoon racing and there’s a good chance our customers will get great views of this amazing international event on the water.”
The exciting contest between Sir Ben Ainslie’s state-of-the-art catamaran and other futuristic sailing craft from France, New Zealand, Sweden, Japan and the USA will reach its climax on Sunday afternoon in the Solent off Southsea. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will also be in Portsmouth that day to show their support for Sir Ben Ainslie’s racing team and cheer on the British yacht.
Wightlink expects all its sailings to be extremely popular this weekend and urges customers to book as soon as possible for both its car ferries and passenger catamarans. Portsmouth will also be very busy with families at the start of the school holidays, as well as ACWS traffic, so journeys to the port may take longer than usual.
