Motorists face further travel disruption from today (Monday) as Island Roads close 3 more main roads – including an arterial route through the middle of Ryde. The work by Island Roads will address areas of deterioration at Briddlesford Road at Wootton, Alum Bay New Road in Totland and St Johns Road in Ryde. The work is part of an ongoing programme to improve the strategic highway network ahead of the holiday season when roads are busier. The Briddlesford Road and St Johns Road projects are scheduled to begin today (Monday), while the Alum Bay New Road work will begin at a time to be confirmed. Information on all schemes will be provided on information boards at each site. In each case, the work is likely to involve deep excavations to address the underlying issues that have caused the deterioration of the highway at certain locations. These excavations mean the roads will be closed as through roads around-the-clock for the duration of work. Residents will however be able to gain access as long as it is safe to do so. Each scheme has also been split into phases to reduce disruption, as the works involve deeper excavations it is difficult to specify duration due to services, etc. At St Johns Road, Ryde, these phases are between Daniel Street and Monkton Street and then between Monkton Street and St Johns Wood Road. Both closures will cause significant disruption for motorists, with extra traffic expected on Smallbrook Lane. At Briddlesford Road, the phases are between Station Road and Littletown Lane and then between Gravel Pit Lane and Combley Lane. This comes immediately after disruption in the area with the closure of Station Road, and other works on Briddlesford Road. The phases at Alum Bay New Road are between Alum Bay Old Road and The Needles and between Cliff Road and York Road. An Island Roads spokesperson has said:
“Work of this nature will inevitably cause some disruption even though we have taken steps to minimise the impact on the local community. “The work is part of our ongoing investment in maintaining a safe network and we would like to thank road users for their patience and understanding.”
Has to be done so no good endless moaning.
Previous experience suggests that, rather than minimising delays, there will be long periods with no work going on in which case moaning is fully justified.
I do accept though, that it moaning is completely pointless because they police themselves so won’t take any notice.
But if island roads concentrated on just one at a time and used all the so called manpower on that one it wiuld be a lot faster to get that one reopened. Then on to the next. But you need brains to work that out.
They are too busy parked up in car parks
eating, texting and looking at magazines.
Just look in car parks or along seafronts, you will always
see plenty of Island Roads vehicles parked there for hours.
They get paid appearance money, not for the work carried out.
Im too scared of going into carparks im my car or walking for the fear of getting a ticket or charged for the privilege. Walk too slow abd get a yellow sticker on mt back.

Yes but done and last!! Not done for virtually a cosmetic look of smoothness then crumble away again with next influx of tourists or rainstorms and cold weather! Then nobody would mind the disruption half as much!.
Same “deep excavation” rubbish they came out with about York Avenue. Just lies to justify closing the roads for much longer than necessary while no work is actually being done. Should change their name to Bodge it and Run.

It’s not the first time they have closed it for repairs . If they’d done it properly in the first place then we wouldn’t have to constantly have road closures. Makes me laugh. Access If only deemed safe. So if someone has gone out they may not be allowed back home until safe. You’ve got to put it to island roads they certainly are a class of their own.
Pick any main road and count how many new bits of tarmack have been replaced due to repairs and utility works
