A large amount of building waste and tiles, which potentially contain asbestos, has been found dumped at the entrance to the Tennyson Trail in the West Wight.

Members of Badger Trust Isle of Wight made the shocking discovery at 17:15 yesterday evening (Friday) off the B3399 between Brook and Chessell.

Photographs released by the Trust show a mixture of tiles, wood, plastic guttering and black bags littered up a byway in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

It comes just a week after asbestos tiles were found on a bridleway in Wroxall. The Isle of Wight Council have confirmed that a specialist team will be removing the waste at Wroxall on Monday at a cost to the Island taxpayer of more than £2,000.

The Isle of Wight’s Environmental Health team have been informed about yesterday’s discovery near Shalcombe.
