UPDATE @ 16:56 – A Mazda 323F has become wedged between a tree and a garden wall close to the junction with Belle Vue Road.

Firefighters have removed the roof of the vehicle to extricate the occupants, a male and a female, who are now being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.

It is thought the driver of the Mazda suffered a medical episode at the wheel, causing the single vehicle collision.

Jeff Walls, Senior Officer for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has described the incident as fairly complex with the point of access for the extrication proving challenging.

Fire crews accessed gardens to surround the vehicle for a safe and swift extrication.
