A beloved parrot adopted last year by the team at Beaulieu Harbour office on the Beaulieu River took an unscheduled holiday to the Isle of Wight last week, prompting concern over his whereabouts.
Miguel, an Alexandrine Parrot, was adopted by the team after being found by a group of canoeists last Summer and accompanied them back to the harbour office carried in a box of San Miguel beer – from where he got his name.
After attempts to locate his owner came to nothing, the Beaulieu Harbour became his new home where his sociable nature made him a firm favourite amongst staff and guests.
However, last Friday (June 23rd), the team at Beaulieu River issued the following heartfelt appeal on social media:
“Unfortunately, our beloved parrot, Miguel has gone missing. We believe he managed to get out overnight. Please look out for him around the river, Buckler’s Hard village and the river walk. He responds to his name and is partial to some fruit.”
The following day, the team at the Wildheart Sanctuary in Sandown on the Isle of Wight were alerted to reports of a parrot which had been seen in the nearby Yaverland Car Park…
In a post on social media, they said:
“On Saturday the animal care team were called to assist with the rescue of a very friendly parrot spotted in the Yaverland car park. He was taken to the Sanctuary and looked after by our team.”

As it turned out, the parrot was Miguel who had flown all the way to the Island!
Yesterday, both organisations announced that the parrot had been reunited with the team at Beaulieu River and was safely back home following his unscheduled Island mini-break.
The Wildheart Trust said:
“We are pleased to report that Miguel has been safely reunited with his owners this morning. He obviously decided he needed a holiday from his busy job with the team at Beaulieu River – and what better place to go than the sandy shores of Sandown Bay!”
Wendy Stowe, Harbour Master at Beaulieu River, said:
“We are so grateful to both the public and The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary for helping to find and look after Miguel. He’s been very chatty since getting home, but we’re not sure his favourite phrase of ‘good boy’ is quite true!”
Only wanted to be with the rest of the parrots over here.Now we know how the islanders came to be.Veg inbreeding birds.

do humans not realise that these birds are meant to be in their natural habitats, with other parrots, able to fly freely, when they want, where they want and not in imprisoned a cage for human pleasure.

are you actually for real ratbag – you do realise that other lifeforms have the right to enjoy their lives in the way nature intended. Just because they have a different form to humans and communicate using a different language, doesn’t give humans the right to imprison them in a cage.
the very fact that you take the attitude you do, just proves that you have no ability to think beyond the boundaries of the information and knowledge you were given as a child.
just because you have always seen creatures locked up in cages for no good reason and the only justification is because it is called a pet doesn’t make it right

That is definitely a Norwegian Blue rather than an Alexandrine Parrot.
