The cause of death of pensioner Michael Davies, whose body was found in marshland in Sandown last week, is yet to be determined.
An inquest was opened and adjourned in Newport yesterday (Wednesday) into the death of the 71-year-old, who went missing from the Hotel Maria on Culver Parade on 26th May.
Despite a large scale Police and public search for the tourist from Blania in Wales, Mr Davies was not located until his body was found on marshland between Brickfields Way and Marsh Close last Wednesday (1st July), less than half a mile from where he was last seen on CCTV on Avenue Road.
Mr Davies and his wife had come to the Island on a coaching holiday when, out of the blue, the much-loved husband, father and grandfather disappeared. The alarm was raised with Police on the morning of Wednesday 27th May, although an appeal for the missing man was not made public until 15:00 that day, with a helicopter and WightSAR not on scene until 17:00.
A post-mortem has yet to determine the exact cause of death, which is still being investigated. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
The inquest has been adjourned until Monday 7th December.
