2 men who were arrested as they attempted to leave the Isle of Wight following a serious assault in Newport back in September have been released without charge and will face no further action.
Police were called at just after 19:00 on Thursday 25th September to reports of an assault in St Thomas’ Square, Newport.
A 20-year-old man was found unconscious at the scene. He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries, including a broken jaw and eye socket.
Approximately 2 hours after the incident, officers arrested 2 34-year-old men from Havant at Wightlink’s car ferry terminal in Fishbourne.
At the time, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said the pair had been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled Class B drug.
Police have since confirmed that both men have been released from bail without charge and will face no further action.

CCTV would solve many crimes.
So did they not attack him, or not enough evidence, someone attacked him?
Hence needing more CCTV to solve such incidents
Why bother investigating? It costs money & if guilty they’ll get a small fine & a community order they won’t fulfill
