Those enjoying a day beside the seaside in Ventnor should be reassured that they are being kept safe by the town’s beach safety team, which has been funded by Ventnor Town Council.
The team is providing first aid cover for the local area, as well as giving vital safety advice to beachgoers throughout the Summer season. They are based at the beach safety hut located centrally along the Esplanade. The hut carries an AED defibrillator in case of serious emergencies and team members are equipped with first aid kits and carry 2-way radios.
Brian Roberts heads up the team with his knowledge of the beach and sea states very useful with the influx of Summer visitors. Brian has been with the Town Council for many years and is a popular figure throughout the town.
Beth Whitehead and Lloyd Wheatley make up the trio. They too are local to Ventnor and as such know the beach well, in particular its tidal states.
Those heading to the beach are being urged to keep an eye out for the red flag, which may be flown at certain times if the sea state is deemed unsafe for bathers.

How did he get a job like this if he goes into the water he would need to be rescued himself with all that hair covering his face.
Whatever happened to people looking smart and taking a pride in their looks. Still, I suppose if you were being rescued you wouldn’t care what your rescuer looked like.
I’m sure if you were drowning and he saved your life you wouldn’t care too much what he looked like. You might even be grateful.
