Medina marching band will be heading to the continent as a UK representative at the Roeselare VE Day International Tattoo in Belgium next week.
The Newport-based and has been working on a new display in recent weeks, arranged by Drum Major Jason Penney.
The day will kick off with a parade around the town, alongside The Massed Pipes and Drums of Ypres Surrey Pipes and drums and For Freedom Pipes and Drums Knokke – Heist, Belgium, Showkorps WIK Oostende, Belgium and Marching band DVS, Katwijk from the Netherlands.
The Tattoo will close with a Massed Band performance of Band of Brothers, the European Anthem, the last post and the national anthems of the participating bands countries.
Kevin Downer the bands Chairman, has said:
“It’s a real honour we have been selected to represent the Island at this International event
“We will be using our new display at events throughout the summer here on the island and at London Band Week which the band is honoured to have also been selected to take part in, in July at the London Tattoo at London’s Excel alongside the Bands of His Majesty’s Royal Marines, a 320 strong college band, The University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland USA, SOS Warriors Community Marching band Florida USA, Hertfordshire Show Band, Burgess Hill Marching Youth and Brentwood Imperial Youth Band, we are certainly in for an exciting season along with all the great events here on the Island and Mainland that we will be performing at over the summer.”
