Marks and Spencer have confirmed to Island Echo that they are looking to expand their presence on the Island and have shown an interest in taking over the current Co-Operative store in Cowes.
Rumours have been circulating for weeks over the future of the Terminus Road site after The Co-Operative confirmed they are selling up. Despite the local rumours, supermarket giant Tesco have said they are not involved in talks to take over the prime retail site.
Although nothing has been confirmed as of yet, a spokesperson for M&S has told Island Echo:
“We are always looking for good store locations and have an interest in expanding our offer in Cowes. Terminus Road is a site we’re looking at, however, we have nothing to confirm at this point.”
The Isle of Wight currently has one Marks and Spencer’s store located at Church Litten, Newport. The potential store at Cowes would be a smaller M&S Food outlet.
