MAN STUCK IN THE MUD AT NODES POINT RESCUED THANKS TO MULTI-AGENCY RESPONSE

A dog walker stuck fast in a muddy landslip near St Helens has been rescued thanks to the efforts of a large scale multi-agency operation.  3 Coastguard Rescue Teams, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS), Bembridge RNLI and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service all jumped into action at around 13:00 this afternoon (Saturday) when a 999 call raised concerns for a male reported to be stuck in mud at Nodes Point. The casualty found himself in the rather sticky situation as he walked his dog along the coast between Priory Bay and The Duver at St Helens. The area has become notorious for catching people out with 3 similar rescues in 2023 so far, so the Island’s emergency services knew how best to approach the mission. Bembridge, Ventnor and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams were all mobilised to the scene in a rarely-seen 3-team incident. They were supported by Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat and multiple fire crews from HIWFRS. Thankfully, the joint emergency response led to the successful rescue of the male who was placed on a stretcher and taken by lifeboat around to the awaiting ambulance. He was then conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by paramedics for further assessment. His dog was safely walked back to The Duver.
