A man in a distressed state in the sea off Ryde sparked an emergency response earlier this afternoon (Monday).
At shortly before 14:00 it was reported to Solent Coastguard that a fully clothed man had entered the water off Ryde Sands, resulting in Ryde Inshore Rescue being tasked to launch.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Police also responded to the scene. The lifeboat was not required to launch in the end.
The man was safely brought ashore, albeit wet and cold, and has since been taken to St Mary’s Hospital by Police.
