41-year-old Rafal Malinowski has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm following a baton attack near Ryde yesterday (Wednesday).
Police were called to Beaper Shute at 13:55 following reports that a man had been struck on the arm with a baton.
Officers arrested a man and took him to Newport Police Station for questioning.
Malinowski, from Avenue Road in Sandown, has since been charged with attempted GBH and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
He has been remanded in custody to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

Another good old Isle of Wight name.
Ha ha yeah right! Obviously the Isle of Wight appeals to a lot of people.
As Al Murray, pub landlord would say: “Beautiful British name”!
That’s right. People from the Isle of Wight don’t do such things.
Yet we don’t need to ‘import’ more of those who just add to our own undoubtedly low life.
Wait until the ‘inner city’ lot arrive when Ryde is built to ruination. Such will become commonplace.
Name means nothing, would you send the royals ‘home’? Before they changed their name in 1917 it was Saxe-Coburg.
No.
I would. I don’t think they’re “in-touch ” with the ordinary people of this country at all.
That’s racist, what a disgusting comment
Maybe he was practicing to be a cheerleader.
