29-year-old James Holgate has been charged after allegedly spitting blood in the faces of 2 Police officers following a late night fight in Shanklin.
At around 23:00 last night (Saturday), Police responded to reports of a fight outside The Falcon pub on Regent Street, Shanklin.
On arrival, officers separated 2 males who were fighting. Subsequently, 1 male spat blood in the face of 2 officers upon arrest.
It has now been confirmed that James Holgate, of Hyde Road, Shanklin, has been charged with a public order offence as well as 2 counts of assaulting an emergency worker.
Howgate will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 7th August 2020.
Others are warned that the Police will always seek to prosecute individuals who commit assaults on officers.
If the new guidelines are upheld that’s a prison sentence for that individual.
Lockdown should mean lockup for some people. Spitting is worse than punching someone. Disgusting!!!!!!

Can only hope that it is NOT just the Police who are protected by such vile behaviour. The public deserve equal respect and protection from the low life we know have en masse in every town on the Island.
You are more protected, on Statute, than Her Majesty’s finest on the thin blue line. Without wishing to appear patronising : that is why we have Police Officers. So that they may intervene in, or be subject to, incidents of which you would not wholeheartedly be comfortable with. Trouble is… If it happened to you, mate, you would have to bring a private prosecution with data and evidence gathered at the scene by yourself. So, fair question… You are protected, enshrined by immutable law- but others are protected with greater force. Sadly, these days, it is probably the future criminal!

Emergency workers have a tough job and this scum should not be allowed to get off lightly with this vile assault. I hope his family and friends are proud of him.
