A 58-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary harm to an animal and being drunk and disorderly in a public place following an incident in Newport Town Centre this morning (Friday).
Police received reports of disturbance in a public place at the junction of Pyle Street and St. James’ Street at around 09:20am this morning (13th September) involving 2 men.
Island Echo understands that 2 men were seen stumbling and falling over in the town centre shortly before Police were called. The pair also had a small dog with them at the time which was being dragged along behind them, it is alleged.
At the scene, a 39-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm or distress.
A 58-year-old man from Newport was also arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and causing unnecessary harm to an animal.
They both remain in custody at this time.
Hope the little dog is ok. As for the drunks push them over culver like they did many years ago.
