A car has overturned and come to rest on its roof in a hedge off Quarr Hill near Fishbourne this evening (Monday).
Emergency services including police, fire and ambulance crews are rushing to the incident.
Passersby have stopped to assist following the single vehicle collision.
The main road between Ryde and Newport – more specifically between Binstead and Fishbourne – has been closed to traffic in both directions.
Southern Vectis is warning of potential delays:
“Owing to a car being on it’s roof on Quarr Hill, routes 4 and 9 are liable to be delayed while emergency services deal with the scene. More information once we know.”
UPDATE @ 22:00 – The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is working to extricate at least 1 person from the overturned car – a Peugeot 108 – by using specialist cutting equipment.
2 fire appliances are currently on the scene alongside an ambulance and an ambulance officer.
Paramedics are assessing the occupant of the vehicle whilst firefighters work to extricate them from the car.
UPDATE @ 22:25 – The casualty has now been extricated from the wreckage and has been passed into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Th road is to remain closed until recovery has been completed.
Isle of Wight Police have confirmed that the incident has involved a single vehicle.
