A main stretch of road between Newport and Arreton is closed to allow for emergency works this evening (Friday).
Island Roads crews have closed the road between the Blackwater Junction and Merstone Lane to allow for the removal of a dangerous tree.
Several Island Echo readers have reported that the tree had been hanging precariously over the carriageway resulting in several near misses.
Motorists are diverted via Blackwater and Rookley in both directions.
UPDATE @ 20:15 – The road has now reopened.
I hope the tree recovers and everyone is ok.
