The M27 between Junctions 9 and 11 will fully reopen at 04:00 tomorrow (Saturday) – a full 24 hours earlier than originally scheduled.
The motorway has been closed since Christmas Eve to allow for construction works linked to improvements at Junction 10, using an innovative ‘box slide’ technique.
This method, used only a handful of times in the UK, has significantly reduced disruption by replacing months of lane closures, speed restrictions and overnight works with a single extended closure period.
Over the course of the works, approximately 130 workers have clocked up around 10,000 hours – working around the clock to complete the job safely and efficiently.
The road surface has now been fully reinstated, with the central barrier installed. However, due to colder temperatures, materials need time to cure and strengthen before traffic can return. Today, crews are applying road markings and reinstalling temporary lane 1 safety barriers, ahead of final safety checks.
The M27 had initially been expected to reopen at 04:00 on Sunday.

It’s a miracle!
Obviously not Island Roads they have finished
early.
Lol
The mainland operatives would put the island
operatives to shame.
The M27 ? I thought we lived on the Isle of Wight.
Amazing what can be achieved these days. Take note island roads, 1 month to resurface Binstead road, about 500 yards!
Island Roads operatives spend more time sitting in
vehicles shirking than working.
Very visual when passing their vehicles.
They are work shy.
