A luxury Audi Q7 has been seized by Police after it was seen being driven by a man with no licence and no insurance in Newport last night (Tuesday).
Officers from the Newport Neighbourhood Policing Team pulled the vehicle over near to Brickfield Close whilst it was being driven to Sainsbury’s supermarket.
Roadside checks soon revealed that the man did not have the correct licence to drive the vehicle, only possessing a provisional licence. Furthermore, he held no insurance on the vehicle either.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Do you know someone driving when they shouldn’t be? You can easily report online and provide us with information. We will continue to target vehicles being used illegally to make our roads safer”.

All the gear…. no idea
Likely ‘selling gear’ got him the motor.
If the vehicle has value, the police should sell it, not crush it.
As long as he gets insurance and produces it within 14 days he can have the vehicle back after paying the charges however he will still get points for no insurance so it will be very costly to insure anyway, hopefully the vehicle will be sold at auction.
Who owns the vehicle? Strange to own a car like that with a provisional licence…
You don’t need a licence to own a car. Some people just don’t bother to pass their test. Even if they have the money. They just don’t give a &^%$.
It would appear so…
If he can afford to shop at sainsburys the car deserves crushing
Just goes to prove the theory that Sainsburys keeps the rabble out of Lidl.
So true, Sainsbury’s are more expensive than Marks & Spencer and Waitrose
Well if you shop smart in Sainsbury’s and use your reward card, you’ll find that they are not that expensive. The perishable goods keep fresh and taste better than other supermarkets.
That would be state vandalism, not a good message to send out, much better to sell the car..
I think we need a new approach to uninsured cars.
Sell them at auction and the funds go to a central fund to compensate people affected by accidents with uninsured drivers. plus a hefty fine for the uninsured driver too.
I agree with Joe, sell it .
No wonder why people’s car insurance go up because people can’t pay for it due to lack of ignorance not fair
Lack of ignorance? No shortage around here.
How long have they been driving without a licence?
What absolute BS from Hampshire Police there. It is far from easy to report illegal cars and when you do the police all too often either do NOTHING or they tip off the driver. Never heard such rot.
The model of car can be bought 2nd hand from £2000 upwards depending on age.
