The Island’s Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Susie Sheldon JP, recently visited Sandown to present Royal Voluntary Service Community Champion Ben Holbrook with a framed letter from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, alongside a special Coronation badge.
Ben volunteers for Sandown Green Town Volunteers, as well as Sandown Carnival and Regatta.
Members of his family, voluntary groups and the Town Council attended the presentation at the Broadway Centre.
Mrs Sheldon said:
“Ben is one of only 500 Coronation Champions, and makes a real difference to the Community he lives in, and alongside Ruth Hollingshead was one of two Islanders recognised nationally”.
Ben was part of the 2022 Queens Award for Voluntary Service-winning Sandown Green Town Volunteers. The 2021 QAVS Award Winners Isle of Wight Voluntary Bus partnership were also present and were awarded special royal badges in recognition of their voluntary service, in particular during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Mrs Sheldon concluded:
“The Island is very fortunate to have dedicated volunteers that give up time and commitment on a regular basis, for the benefit of their fellow residents and visitors to the Island’.
The Lord Lieutenant was presented with a specially designed Coronation Bag by Bay CE Primary School, and a bouquet of flowers.
