An upcoming singer from Binstead is using time at home during the coronavirus crisis to write new songs and shed some positivity on the world with ‘isolation sessions’.
Emelia will be a name familiar with Island Echo readers as she has featured several times over the past 12 months for her striking new music, with singles such as ‘Authority’ and ‘Run’.
The Isle of Wight singer is using lockdown time productively and has so far published 5 isolation sessions videos. Emelia produced a series of daily Christmas music videos at the end of last year too.
Speaking about her isolation sessions, Emelia says:
“As we are all currently stuck in isolation, I am trying to shed some positivity on the world and use this time in the most productive way I can.
“For quite a while, I was struggling to find the time to write songs for more than an hour because I just could not find time in the day! I wake up early every morning and start writing. If it flows, then I’m usually finished in a couple of hours. But if it doesn’t feel quite right, I’ll stop and start again later in the day.
“All of the songs I am writing are anything between breakups, anxiety, mental health, sense of control, attitude… anything. You name it, I’m writing it! A lot of people are saying that they can really relate to the lyrics, and that’s an incredible feeling. I want to provide people with something to look forward to every day to dance to or cry to!
“Sitting and creating the sounds at my computer is a great feeling and the time flies by. Singing along to the melodies you put together is such a rewarding feeling. It is a great release for me as an artist to help promote myself, but also a great release for me as a person because every emotion between happiness to anxiety I can express freely in song”.
Emelia says that others should consider ways of getting creative:
“I definitely feel like this is a productive way to spend my time, but I also feel that it has turned into a really fun hobby. I recommend to all creatives during this time to practise mastering their craft – but I also recommend not to feel like you have to do something every day! It is a confusing, difficult time for everybody and so lots of rest and down time is so important”.
