Residents of towns and villages on the south of the Isle of Wight have until tomorrow (28th October) to comment about road restrictions in their area.
New traffic regulation orders (TROs) are proposed to be introduced in Chale, Niton, Ventnor, Wroxall and Whitwell.
The orders — which could include the introduction of or changes to parking restrictions, loading bays and pay and display locations — may take up to 2 years for a final decision to be made but residents have until tomorrow to comment, the council is reminding people.
Other changes are proposed to help traffic flow, remove dangers to pedestrians and ensure junctions are visible.
In Ventnor, where the vast majority of changes are proposed, there could be changes to pay and display locations on the Esplanade, revoke the no loading ban on Victoria Street and introduce a designated loading bay on Albert Street as well as a one-hour waiting restriction in the summer between 10:00 and 18:00. Double yellow lines could be introduced in new parts of the Esplanade and Esplanade Road; Park Avenue; Leeson Road; Shore Road; Steephill Road and St Catherine Street.
Wroxall could see double yellow line introductions in parts of Clarence Road; Manor Road; Stenbury View and St John’s Road.
Double yellow lines are also proposed in areas of Bannock Road; Castlehaven Lane; Fishers; High Street; Ludbrook Way; Nettlecombe Lane; Sandrock Road; Seven Sisters Road; St Catherine’s Road; Town Road and Twining Road in Niton and Whitwell.
In Chale it is proposed double yellow lines are introduced all year round, instead of just during the summer period, on Blackgang Old Road by Blackgang Chine.
To have a closer look at the proposals, you can visit the Isle of Wight Council’s website: www.iow.gov.uk/Council/OtherServices/Traffic-Regulation-Orders/Traffic-Regulation-Orders-Live-Consultations/, where you can fill in the online survey.
You can also email your thoughts to [email protected] or send a letter to IWC, Highways / Transport Manager, St Christopher House, Daish Way, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5XJ.
Residents must provide a full address for their comments to be legally considered.
The current proposals being consulted on the Isle of Wight Council say have been drawn up from suggestions made since 2013 which the police have since agreed.

Road begging for Double Yellow Lines
Great Preston Road, Ryde
Reds at least Jacob. Yellows won’t deter the transits.
I would clamp the Numpties.
Jacob
It’s the Idiots living in the Council Houses, they think they can Park anywhere.
Sadly lack of education is the answer.
Will IW Council be brave enough to place Double yellow lines along this idious road!
Many residents leave Company Vans parked along this Road.
Parking permits & Parking meters would solve the problem, if people
had to pay per vehicle they park they would soon leave vehicles in Company Yards.
Those vans and the builders etc you complain about are paying taxes to fund the growing amount of part time or non working parents of benefit funded clones who occupy many of the non private council homes in that road
Few pay much rent or council tax and claim hundreds a week in state aid.
Don’t forget Beefy those builders are also paying for the
Disability vehicles many of those people drive.
£25k+ vehicles, tax and insurance free, also maintenance free
(Alright for some)
Ain’t life a bitch.
They are going to do it ,there has been signs up to say it’s going to be done ,we live in Great Preston Road , yes it’s needs doing . But not on the side they are going to do. We live on the left hand side going towards west ridge garage. At the moment now with cars park on this side . To get off our drive is like taking your life in your hands. We can’t see what is coming up the road to the right of our drive now. To have more cars parked this side it will make it even more difficult to get off our driveway. The cars use this road as a race track.
Near driveways they should place NO Parking lines so it is
Safe for people to come off their drive.
Too many households have far too many vehicles, also company
Vehicles along this Road. (Parking permits) would Stop that.
You are right Great Preston Road is a race track.
Speed camera’s and traffic calming is required along this DANGEROUS
Road.
IW Council need to monitor the amount of vehicles using this Road,
Great Preston Road is much busier than Marlborough Road.
If I had my way I would paint Double Yellow lines down this DANGEROUS Road.
Hopefully IW Council will send an Highways operative along Great Preston Road, Ryde
to see how DANGEROUS this Road is!
Re the dire dangerous condtions in Great Preston rd
Wait until the Industrial units are expanded into the field behind the council houses on the right toward Tesco direction.
That twit of a builder has caused all this hassel by parking on the pavement along GPR and causing near misses most weeks.
Rumour has it that due to recession they may well re apply for more social housing instead of Industrial units now.
Whichever, the amount of cars will only increase as will lorries and vans if industrial units.
Ryde is ruined not for a while but forever now thanks to greedy council and its close chum developers.
No small wonder they like secrecy of not disclosing fiscal info to the public.
How come we have not been aware of these proposals until read in IE giving only one day to comment, why have Parish Council not informed residents too ?.

This story is the Council reminding people of the closing date
Well missed that, but if people ( most don’t read press) how would they know? Used to have Parish Council news magazine, but no longer. They no longer even tell us when their little closed meetings happen isolating the majority – they ( upper classes ) are happy to take our tax money though but not involve the community .
Freddie, why not get yourself nominated for the parish election next time round? It costs nothing to stand and I think you only need two people to nominate you for a parish. At least make them work for votes. Put a letter out to your neighbours and you might even get a few votes yourself!

Does someone on the council own a yellow paint making factory by any chance?
In at least one example in this round of proposals they are consulting on REMOVING a restriction! (yea I know, bit of a shock isn’t it!) In the case of St Catherine St in Ventnor, requests have come from some residents, the place is frequently blocked up by silly parking, and bin lorries frequently find access impossible.
I’m glad of yellow lines in one of these places. It will stop people who don’t live here using it as there own parking spot, despite them having garages and driveways to use, and those with company vans using it, and preventing safe pedestrian access and parking on junctions.
Very true.
Too many idiots think they own the roads.
How about double yellows down the bottom of palance rd in Northwood, the idiots clog the rd up, especially the prat with the old blue mini!
Council can kiss my arse, we pay road tax so fuck the parking charges!
