A team of 6 lifeguards successfully completed a cross-Solent swim from GAFIRS in Gosport to the Beach Lifeguard Headquarters in Ryde yesterday (Thursday).
The swimmers took on the challenge to help raise money for a jet ski and rescue sled for use on both Ryde and Sandown beaches in 2023.
Jack Robertson, Jess Heng, Mason Adams, Becca Woodford, Mary Caddick and JoJo Jeffcoate all successfully completed the swim.
The first swimmer crossed the Solent in just over 1 hour 30 minutes, with the final swimmer finishing in just under 2 hours.
The event has so far raised over £1,000.
Todd Miller, Beach Manager for Ryde Beach Lifeguards, has said:
“A huge thank you to Griffin Marine Services and East Cowes Marina for support with safety cover for the event, as well as all those who kayaked for the swimmers. A big thank you also to Mayor Michael Lilley who was waiting on the shore at Ryde to cheer in the swimmers and present them with their awards”.

No point wasting resources on jet-ski riders. Let natural selection take its course.
Very intelligent comment
