Bembridge RNLI and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (SSILB) both came to the aid of a yacht with engine and rigging problems off the coast of Ventnor this evening (Saturday).
Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat (SSILB) was tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard at around 18:45 following reports that the 26ft yacht ‘Jester Blossom’ was suffering with engine difficulties and water ingress off the East Coast of the Island.
Making good progress from The Bay towards Dunnose Head, SSILB quickly rendezvoused with the yacht and its 2 crew members before establishing a tow and heading for Bembridge Harbour.
Before long the support of Bembridge RNLI was requested as 1 of SSILB’s engines started to play up. The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ All Weather Lifeboat was tasked to launch at 19:30 and was soon alongside both the casualty vessel and the independent lifeboat. Bembridge RNLI took over the tow, but as SSILB had a member of their crew onboard Jester Blossom and had loaned lifejackets to the casualty crew, they followed the Alfred Albert Williams into Bembridge.
The Jester Blossom was berthed alongside the Duver Pontoon and met by Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team at around 21:00.
The Alfred Albert Williams lifeboat returned to the boathouse and was rehoused by 21:30. Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat left the scene shortly after and was back on station by 22:00.
