4 volunteer members of Bembridge RNLI have been recognised for their years of dedication to rescuing those in peril on the seas. Last night (Tuesday), the RNLI recognised the selfless and unwavering dedication of the 4 individuals, 1 of whom has given more than 40 years to saving lives around the coast of the Isle of Wight. James Pink and Gareth Millington, who both joined the lifeboat crew in 2003, were awarded their Long Service medals for 20 years of devoted service. A Long Service medal was also awarded to the current Lifeboat Operations Manager, John Keyworth, who joined Bembridge RNLI some 43 years ago back in 1981. Former Isle of Wight police officer Martin Norman was also recognised for his outstanding commitment and dedication to the RNLI with an ‘Excellence in Volunteering’ award. This was, in part, in recognition of his pivotal role in the development of the ‘Safe to Shout’ video, which provides comprehensive training on responding safely to the lifeboat station. It is now an integral part of training for all RNLI volunteers. Martin’s award also recognises his high standard of training for fellow crew members and his constant strive to review areas for improvement.
