Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team responded to reports of someone potentially in difficulty in the water off Seagrove Bay earlier this evening (Thursday).
RNLB Norman Harvey was launched at around 19:00 at the request of Solent Coastguard to investigate a report of something or someone, possibly a kite surfer or kayaker, in trouble.
Although sea conditions were quite lumpy in the F4/5 Easterly breeze, it did not take long for the volunteer lifeboat crew to reach the area and ascertain that the object that had been reported was in fact an orange kayak securely attached to a mooring.
Having concluded that no one was in danger, the lifeboat was released by Solent Coastguard and returned to Lane End where she was recovered by 19:30.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked to the incident.
