Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat launched as darkness fell to assist a 23ft fishing boat that had broken down some 10 miles south of the lifeboat station this afternoon (Tuesday).
The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ Tamar class lifeboat launched at 16:25 at the request of Solent Coastguard.
It had been reported that the casualty vessel – with 2 persons on board – was incapacitated and drifting eastwards.
Benign conditions meant that Bembridge Lifeboat and her volunteer crew made good speed to the scene. However, not long after the lifeboat reached the area to the east of the Isle of Wight, it was reported that the vessel had regained propulsion.
The fishing boat was able to make her own way back to Portsmouth.
Bembridge ALB was re-housed by 18:00.
