Just ahead of Saturday’s Dash and Splash fun run, it was a dash of another kind for the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat, who went to the aid of a 16ft catamaran off Yaverland.
Solent Coastguard tasked SSILB at 12:22 on Saturday lunchtime to reports of a 16ft Dart catamaran dismasted around half a mile off the Yaverland shoreline in Sandown.
Once on scene, it was discovered part of the casualty vessel’s rigging had broke, causing the mast to collapse.
No one was injured in the incident and the catamaran was towed back to the shore at Yaverland, just in time for the independent lifeboat to head to Shanklin for the start of Dash and Splash.
