Young people on the Isle of Wight will have the opportunity to take part in a transformative programme designed to build confidence, independence, and community connection.
‘You Matter’ is a 14-week accredited life skills programme for 16–35 year-olds, run by the award-winning charity Yellow Brick Road Projects. The course will return to the Island this September and is free for all young people to join, with priority for local residents.
Covering core themes of ‘money & housing’ and ‘life & futures’, sessions tackle essential topics such as budgeting, home safety, tenancy rights, mental health, digital safety, healthy relationships, and employability. One-to-one coaching and small, trauma-informed group sessions help create a welcoming and supportive environment for participants.
The programme also includes guest sessions from local organisations, helping participants access wider support and build networks beyond the course. Participants who complete the programme receive a £50 shopping voucher and a recognised qualification, useful when applying for jobs or rental housing.
As one participant shared:
“You Matter gave me opportunities I never imagined. I gained friends, confidence, and now I’m starting my own business.”
You Matter starts week commencing 15th September, and includes an Accessibility Fund for transport, childcare or equipment. Young people can self-refer, or be nominated by a professional. There will be a one to one opportunity with the You Matter Coach before the programme starts.

What a brilliant initiative. This is what we need more of.
I wonder if there will be a ‘core theme’ of respecting yourself and others, obeying the law, being helpful to those who need it, taking responsibility for your actions, working hard and being the best you can be?
