IW Met Service has issued a Level 3 heat alert for the Isle of Wight as temperatures are expected to reach 30c tomorrow (Friday).
Earlier this week, Island Echo reported that a Spanish heat surge would lead to glorious sunshine today and tomorrow – and that certainly appears to be the case.
Forecasters at IW Met Service have now issued a Level 2 heat alert for today followed by a Level 3 alert for tomorrow.
Ryde and Cowes are expected to see the hottest temperatures on Friday afternoon with 28-30c quite likely – maybe higher.
What is a Level 3 heat alert?
Level 3 represents temperatures between 28c – 30c. Temperatures at this level don’t happen very often during the summer on the Isle of Wight but when they do we certainly feel it!
A significant amount of people will start to really feel the heat when out in direct sunlight, especially if the winds are light. Susceptible people are at risk of heat stroke at these temperatures and even in the shade it may be difficult to find relief, although if there is a good breeze in the shade, it will be comfortable.

IOW met service all they do is copy what the MET office say. The MET office have been saying a heat wave for the end of the week since the weekend. A bit late with the news so perhaps use the MET office for updates?
Hi. We used to follow the weather provided (nationally) by the Met Office but we found it to be unreliable, particularly when it comes to weather warnings. The warnings have become very generic now and often cover hundreds of miles.
We decided to exclusively use IW Met Service data/warnings in December 2018 because we found them to be very reliable and accurate. This remains to be the case.
IW Met Service are very specific with their reports right down to which town will be hottest – which is Ryde tomorrow by the way!
Hope this clear things up.
I will guarantee Ryde will not have the hottest temperature on the IOW tomorrow. Just interesting that their warnings come out hours after the MET office, but it is a local company, I am an avid weather enthusiast and find that their forecasts are often very wide of the mark.

I would love to see an example of them being wide of the mark! Words mean nothing unless you have evidence to back up the claim 🙂
In actual fact if you check the page it was mentioned at the end of the previous week, and then multiple times in the days running up to the short heatwave, this is before and after the Met office mentioned it. What you are saying makes no sense at all.
The warnings of heat for the island are area specific. This isn’t possible until 24/48 hours before the event due to local sea breezes etc.
The heat shifted from Cowes then to ryde before clearing and cooling. This map showed that clearly and it also showed that NO heat was likely along the south and west coast of the island, and this is something the met office are unable to do.
