A drug driver who was looking to overtake cars whilst in the view of Police faces a minimum of a 3-year driving ban. 27-year-old Joseph Medway, of John Street in Ryde, pleaded guilty to drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates on Tuesday (25th June). Prosecuting, Liz Miller told the court that on 3rd January 2024, at around 14:45, the attention of patrolling Police officers was drawn to a blue Audi that was being driven on Downend Road. It appeared to officers as though the vehicle was looking to overtake another. Police followed the Audi before stopping it nearby, noticing immediately that the driver – Medway – looked to be under the influence. A roadside drugs wipe returned a positive reading for THC, as did a blood sample conducted at Newport Police Station following Medway’s arrest. Defending Medway, Bridget O’Hagan said that her client fully cooperated with the Police and that the currently unemployed 27-year-old had taken the drugs at a New Year’s party a few days before. Medway has a previous conviction for drug driving back in 2017 so is set to be banned from the roads for a minimum of 36 months. The 27-year-old was sent to prison for drug supply offences back in December 2022 and was on licence at the time the above offences were committed. The case was adjourned until 9th August when a pre-sentence report is to be presented. Medway has been handed an interim driving ban in the meantime.

Needs more than driving ban, clearly been upto dealing etc to afford drive his Audi if already had a driving ban in 2017, insurance would if been very high, many thousands yet unemployed?. Another one for Rwanda please….
Seize cars from drug & drunk drivers.
He needs to be banned until he is clear of drugs for at least 3 years. He should be returned to prison
All druggies need locking up, we need a safe environment for our
children & their children
We need zero blood levels for all illegal drugs when driving. Why do we p**ss about pandering to those people who put law abiding drivers and pedestrians at risk of injury or death.
There should also be a zero blood level of alcohol for drivers. Many countries are far ahead of us on this. Why are we so far behind.
Let’s get tough on those who choose to drink and drive. It is frequently the case that these offenders are involved in other illegal activities like driving with no insurance, no MOT, illegal number plates, drug dealing and working as food delivery drivers without business insurance.
Let get tough on these offenders. Their cars should be confiscated and sold on to fund Policing.
