Child’s Play was the name of the yacht in trouble in the Solent today (Monday) and it proved child’s play for a crew member of Cowes RNLI lifeboat to swiftly sort out the problem.
The yacht, a 31ft Beneteau with a man and woman aboard, informed Solent Coastguard that it had a steering gear failure off Stansore Point. When Cowes lifeboat arrived on the scene, crew member Laura Hodd went aboard and suggested the electrics should be switched off and then on again.
When this was done the steering was once again restored and without more a-due the yacht proceeded on to Hamble.
